I run ... every day

I was recently asked about my run streak, which got me thinking – just sort of reflecting on the overall streak and trying to figure out what (if anything) it means to me.

My daily run streak began on May 1, 2014, when I set out with a goal to run every day for 30 days. I completed the 30 days and decided to keep the streak going with a new goal of 90 days. I completed the 90 days and then wanted to get to 100 days. I also completed the 100 days – but then, without any real plan, I just kept going.

Today is September 1, 2021, and I have run every day since May 1, 2014. So…a little over 7 years now. At this point, I can’t imagine not running every day. I have run in 100+ degree weather, in the pouring rain, in hurricanes and tropical storms, and have dodged more lightning than I care to admit.

Running is just something I do, and while I think it will be neat if I can hit the 10-year mark, I don’t really think about my streak, I just run… every day… because I like to run.

According to Streak Runners International, I am number 640 on the active streak list with a total of 2,681 days. I track all of my runs with Runkeeper and it shows I’ve run a total of 13,568.2 miles, which puts me at a daily average of a little over 5 miles per day.
