Someone claimed my old “areyouageek.blogspot.com” web address and decided to set up a website and send out what I would call SPAM to announce its launch.
My web address and the real areyouageek (?) website is found at areyouageek.com

I have to ask, Why?
I am not shy about tattoo’s and have posted more than a few pics of my work but I have to question this tattoo. First of off I do not really like the Zune, but that aside, I am not sure I would or could ever get a geek tattoo. Even as sort of an Apple fanboy I do not think I would ever get an Apple logo.
I do have to give this guy some credit, he is dedicated. The tattoo came out pretty nice, although I have some concern about the fact he said it took three hours to complete.

Well I finally was brave enough to crack open the lid on the Mac mini. Let me tell you, it’s not as hard as I had anticipated. You do have to push pretty hard (firmly) with the putty knife but the lid actually comes off pretty easy. Then remove some screws from the inside corners and lift up the drive and other guts to reveal the RAM.
Pretty easy overall but not for the faint. It does require you to unscrew and move some inside parts and I can see how that would make some nervous. Not to mention having to jam that putty knife down the inside. But it was pretty easy and now I can run Parallels much better.
All that to run Windows better, pretty sad for a Mac user. I have found that XP runs much nicer than Vista. So although I have both installed I am not going to boot Vista anymore and use XP for my few Windows needs.

I had gotten a Mac mini a while back for the sole purpose of sitting in the living room and acting as a media streamer to get my iTunes library (video and audio) from my main Mac that sits upstairs in my office. It is an Intel Mac with an 80gb hard drive and 2gb of RAM. Just your basic mini except for the RAM which to be honest I am not sure that I even upgraded in the first place. I had been pretty happy with the streaming and have had very few issues other than starting a movie or tv show. Nothing major just a few extra seconds of load time before it will start.
Then along came the AppleTV and I was not really into it. I had no intrest in anything with a 40gb drive, heck my iPod has an 80 in it. I was happy with the streaming and did not need anything more. I know the mini can do more such as surf the web, but I have a laptop and wireless and have only used the web (Safari) once or twice on the mini so losing that would not even be an issue.
But then Apple updated the AppleTV and added the 160gb drive and now it seems very appealing. I would now be able to actually use it and store my iTunes library (audio and video) and lose those load time annoyances. I am not sure what to do, I would have to sell the mini first to cover the cost so I would be without anything for a week or so then, but that would not be that bad.
Should I get the 160gb AppleTV and sell the mini or just stick with what I have? Choices , choices.
This also brings me to another point, I was pretty uninterested in the iPhone until the date was announced. Now that I know it will be available June 29th I feel I “need” it. But with the quick update to the storage on the AppleTV, I would hate to buy that first iPhone and have the same thing happen. Must resist iPhone!

So we left last Friday evening for Disney and had a great vacation. We stayed until Wednesday morning, which was not that long but with all that I missed on the net. I felt very out of it when I got back. I had a great time in Disney, its a fun place and love hanging out there, plus my daughter has a blast, which is why we really go.
Its hard to go on vacation and really get away. I always carry my Blackberry Pearl and used Twitter while away. I also brought my Powerbook and logged on two times. The hotel internet was not a bad speed but it was $9.95 a day and I am not really into paying all that money for daily access so did without. I did have full intentions of staying online and blogging while away but I seem to stay out alot and get back to the hotel late which I suppose is what you are supposed to do while on vacation. I only managed to get 2 blog posts done the whole time, shame on me.
I just cannot seem to really let go, but at the same time realize that I (and my family) need a vacation. And a vacation does mean getting away, and yes that should include the internet as well. It is just hard to imagine a world without the internet when everything you normally do depends on it. Without the internet I would not make money, I work from home for several companies and also blog. I depend on the internet to survive.
Its now Thursday morning and I feel almost caught up, I am sure I missed some things that happened but I am getting back into it. I am also going to be writing for another blog, this one for all Apple goodies. More on that later.

Anyone have any good tutorials for cracking open the mini without doing to much damage. In the past I has seen the putty knife method but its been a while since I even thought about opening it up. Are there any better methods now?
I had for some unknow reason only put 1GB of RAM into my mini when I ordered it last year. Strange for me because I tend to max the RAM out just because it helps, expecially for someone like me who tends to multi-task way to much and ends up having way to many running apps.
So here it is, a nice fresh box from my favorite memory supplier, Crucial. It contains two 1GB sticks so my mini should be running smooth. The downfall is I will now have two 512mb sticks that I have no use for, anyone want to buy some RAM for a Mac mini real cheap?
