With my renewed effort to not only keep this site going, but also growing I have added a new way to subscribe to the content. While I know that most who read and follow along are getting it via an RSS feed, I also wanted to have the option to subscribe by email as well.

The email is actually nice, it comes in the form of a daily summary, which gives the previous days posts all in one nice email, so far it has been arriving early in the morning (EST), usually around 7am or 8am.

As for anyone interested in doing the same for your site, it was very, very easy to set up. It took longer to post the code in my sidebar than anything. And for anyone who has edited a theme should know, that is pretty simple.

I am using FeedBlitz for my list management, and the setup process was done using Feedburner, although you can also do it directly from them by visiting their site. If you are a Feedburner user the setup took just a few seconds, once logged into your account, click on the feed that you want the email list setup for and then from there just click on the “Publicize” tab, then on the left hand side click “Email Subscriptions.”

Once there, you will have a few options of service to choose from. Quick and easy! There were three total services to use, I first tried the Feedburner option to manage my list, but got an error, so just went to the next on the list (FeedBlitz), which turns out was a good choice.

So I have been wanting to do a blog theme update for a long time now, but I was using a wide theme that allowed me to use images 500 wide and larger without affecting the sidebar. This was causing an issue with choosing a new theme, as most will allow for 425 wide or slightly bigger without affecting the sidebar.

Needless to say I could not find one, and had almost given up and just lived with what I had, after all it was not horrible, just not what I wanted. Well Disqus, in an indirect way convinced me to change my theme. After seeing a lot of people (namely jeffisageek & tw3nty3ight) mention it lately I have been wanting to get it added, however it would not work well with the theme I had, go figure, but at least it forced me to make a switch.

After a good deal of searching I decided to go with this theme (take some time and check it out), which is called “Illacrimo” and it was courtesy of Design Disease.

So I added the theme, got the Disqus comment system set up, updated my sidebar and all those goodies, and then set out to go back through old posts and begin the challenge of resizing images. Sucks, but I am almost all of the way through, the rest will have to wait till later tonight as I have some real work to do now.

Overall I am happy that I made the move, I hope the theme looks good, I like it. Now I also realized one other important item, I need to do more blogging here and get some regular content coming. I also need to get some more commenters so I can fully test and use really Disqus, but with more posts I suppose more comments will come in time.

So I was having issues with the my blog and other theme that I was using, it was moved over from VizaWeb to DreamHost and was not acting right since. Not to place blame on anyone as I am not sure where the fault and/or problem was or still is.

Anyway I have been wanting to do some updating, new theme and layout and this seemed like a perfect time. I also wanted to get away from some of the older posts that are not really what I am doing now. Kind of like a clean fresh start. They are all still there at areyouageek.com/blog if you want or need to refer to any of them. I am not going to delete that blog, just done messing with it.

This site is now up and running under a new sub-domain. It is no longer areyouageek.com/blog but now areyouageek.com/geek. It is also running WordPress 2.1. Just a few more things to check and adjust.

Why I cannot view any images in posts. I had this issue with the old (/blog) and this was a main reason to start over. To get a clean install. However the images are not working.

What can it be?

[UPDATE] So I am just an idiot, I was uploading my images in (ASC II) Text format. No wonder why I could not view them. Stupid mistake.

[UPDATE 2] Now if I could just figure out how to format the text on the main page better. The [UPDATE] above is supposed to be in bold, but it only shows bold on the individual post page, not the index. I am sure there is a logical fix I just cannot find it yet.
