Today was the first day that the new .me domains were available for sale, and things did not go as smoothly as many would have hoped. For those who may have missed it, of course if you were around Twitter at all today then I am sure you have already seen the frustration.

Many of the issues seem to have come from those attempting to register their domains with GoDaddy, but I cannot say that was the only registrar with issues. I would chalk that up to most of the people I am friends with or follow online just prefer to use them.

The .me domains were a little on the high side at $19.99 per year with a two-year minimum, but we did get some sort of discount because my order only came to $35.98 total. Of course already having the .com, .us and .tv version of my name I thought I should go ahead with the .me also. Plus I am planning to consolidate my emails and the .me will make for a cool address, I think.

Personally I was able to register my name of choice without any issue, of course mine was a simple choice, just robertnelson.me, really nothing exciting, and certainly nothing that most other people would want.

Aside from the GoDaddy web page getting slammed when these went on sale at 11am EST, and the order process taking forever it was pretty painless for me. Although it did take quite a while longer than normal for my new .me domain to show up in my domain list, which really just gave me time to set up the hosting account and Google Apps for my email.

Sadly though from the reports that I have seen on Twitter and some popping up on other blogs, the experience for others was not quite as nice.

A fellow Tampa Area Blogger had some great names in mind like AWESO.ME, but was less than thrilled when his order later was denied.

Has GoDaddy just fucked.me, or was their plan just to tease.me and disappoint.me

Not that this will make him, or anyone else who had received confirmations on there names only to have them later denied feel any better, but it seems these issues were not limited to us smaller guys on the Internet. Jeremy Schoemaker from ShoeMoney seemed to have similar frustrations and he started the process yesterday with his GoDaddy rep.

Jeremy had the complete range of wanted domains from the obvious shoemoney.me to ringtones.me and what began as a domain, but seemed to sum up the process for many today; fuck.me

So what’s your story, did you even bother? Did it work out well for you?
