~~a geeks journey through the internet~~

Archive for May, 2008

I was recently sitting at Starbucks, I was at the outside tables and trying to get some fresh air while I worked and enjoyed my Cinnamon Dulce Latte. Around me were a few people and honestly things were not going my way on this particular day. Lets just say my mood was not at 100% and I was not in a mood to deal with anyone, much less a giant ass who is a hypocrite and cannot mind his own business.

So as I am sitting at the table working away on my laptop, making an effort to get a few more posts written and edited before having to leave, my now empty coffee cup blew off the table. No big deal, or so I thought. I intended to finish what I was typing and then pick it up, because I don’t litter.

Well the cup was on the floor for no more than two-seconds when the guy ass sitting next to me, said in a rude and obnoxious way “are you planning on just leaving that on the ground to blow around.”

Needless to say that was all it took to push me over the edge, and I snapped back. Now keep in mind he was a total hypocrite considering he has smoked half a dozen cigarettes which were all on the ground at his feet.

I promptly told him that maybe he should pick it up and use it to “collect all those fucking cigarette butts.” He apparently did not like my comment, because in a sad act, he called me an asshole and then left the area.

After which I did, (as I had planned all along) pick up my cup. Simply put I do not litter. Why people cannot mind their own business is just beyond me.

**And as a final note, I just re-read my title, which now seems funny in a whole new and childish way that I did not see at first, with a love for childish humor I left it as is and hope you get the same laugh.

ProBlogger - Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income

The book arrived on Saturday and I was super excited to start reading it, but with family in from out of town and just generally being busy I have yet to even begin. Hopefully I can get some time this week and start to check it out.

But first I still have to finish Infected, which is an awesome book, also a plus is that I am reading it on my Kindle. Sadly the ProBlogger book was not available in a Kindle edition. Oh well, hopefully it can teach me a few tricks and help me grow as a pro/paid blogger.

  • Nine Inch Nails understands!

While the title is just a simple statement, it is one that cannot be stated any better. Trent Reznor has made plenty of public statements about music and the music industry but has really shown just how much their fans mean to them with their recent music releases.

I have been a long time fan of NIN and was super excited when Ghosts came out in a web friendly manner, and made sure I paid for mine. I listened to and listened to, and am still listening to Ghosts. Its a great album, or I should really say collection of 36 tracks.

Then they released Discipline, a new single as a quick follow up, this time for free as a direct download from their website. An awesome song that was quickly added to my playlist. Now even more recently, through their iLike page they released yet another single, Echoplex, again it is available for free.

With a kick ass album and two free singles I have been super excited and listening to NIN a lot once again. Aside from being a little disappointed they have not announced a Florida date on their tour, which hopefully will change, they have quickly risen and remained in my mind once again.

Then I find out today they have released even more music, again for free and its a full 10 track album. The new album entitled The Slip is available as a free download through their website and is even being offered in a variety of formats.

With that all I can really say is; Thanks.

  • My daughter riding a two-wheeler for the first time

Such as proud moment as a dad, my five-year old just learned to ride her two wheeler. Its been a tough couple of weeks with her falling and getting frustrated, but the hard work has paid off, because tonight she was able to do it with just a little push to get started!

What makes it even better is that she is super excited to go out again tomorrow and try again, she wants to be able to get on and start without my push. She wants to do it all by herself, my little girl is growing up.

  • That lesson, is that it seems your are able to drive just about anything that will move when you are in Florida. Granted I live in somewhat of a rural, or up and coming area but this is just plain wrong.

What we have here is a classic example of redneck transportation at its best. Enjoy, and feel free to click through on the image if you want to see it a little larger.

  • Some Saturday morning humor

A quick check of my feeds this morning led me to find something really funny, which is pictured above. While I should not poke fun at the writing of anyone else, because I am far from perfect myself, this one made me laugh. It is just a simple spelling error, but in the context it comes out very funny.

“When I dropped out of collage I wasn’t very productive,”

Of course I will go on to say that this particular blog is one that will remain in my RSS feed list and be read regularly. So a special thanks to Retire @ 21, not only for providing good material on their website but also giving me a good Saturday morning laugh.

  • areyouageek (?) Fact 002: this is me…

this is me A little something about me:

Sometimes when I go out in public, I feel the need to be extra nice and extra friendly because of my tattoos and stretched ears. At times it feels like I have to go above and beyond what most “regular” people would have to do in order to feel like they are being treated fairly.

While I do not in any way regret my decisions to decorate myself as I did, I often wish that people would leave the stereotypes behind. This feels like it happens more often when I am out and about with just myself and my kids, at times the stares I get almost make me feel like I am doing something wrong. Of course we get stares when my wife is around as well, as she has plenty or work herself.

    Stereotyping sucks!
