For Sale

Well not me, but this title is more a subject as to what sometimes happens online. I follow a fairly large amount of sites online. Some for the sole purpose of just seeing where that individual is going and how things evolve and such. A recent posting from one such site really got me thinking about where we spend our online time and it will make me question how much I will involve myself into places online in the future.

While I have talked about building a community or group of friends using this website, its purpose is not about making money, but to share my experience and thoughts. It would be nice to eventually see some advertising money come in, but its more a place to enjoy and vent for me and not a money making opportunity.

Of course as clear as I can say that, anyone reading this will never know my true intentions. I will say that I am not building this site up for a future sale, of course if anyone came along and offered my an insane amount of money I would not turn it away, but aside from the one-in-a-million (or greater) chance this site will remain mine.

With that, the recent post I saw came from a website called Moms Cash Blog and while I was not part of her community, I followed along just to see what she was doing and checked in from time to time to see and possibly learn something.

I was not really involved, but from my point of view it appeared she had a decent and loyal following, I am not sure how big it was though. I had first seen Krysti a while back when she was broadcasting on Justin.tv and thought she was onto something. So I subscribed and followed along from the outside.

I use the word outside carefully because I was never part of her community, just a reader. Which after her latest post it kind of makes me glad. I will first say that everything must come to an end sometime, but this seems to me like it was designed this way from the start. See her latest post was announcing that she was selling her site; MomsCashBlog.com.

As she used the site, she also used her name, but often referred to herself as Mom and it makes me wonder just what the buyer (if anyone comes along) will actually get as a benefit other than some initial traffic.

What concerns me and to bring this back to the original point is we have to be careful as to where we choose to involve ourselves online, because they come and seem to go just as quickly. This particular site (according to Krysti) was going for 6-months, and while I cannot think that she should keep it going just because, and just shutting it down when you could sell it off is silly, but I cannot help to feel bad for those that really followed her and were actually part of the community there.

Sometimes in this world of making money online its hard to get a good feel of someone’s true intentions. You can never be that sure if they are in it for the long haul or out to just make a quick buck. Either way I hope Krysti makes out well on the sale, I have not met her, nor ever talked to her, and don’t mean to single her out, it was just her post that got me thinking.
